Here's the first intallment of Doctor Who TV Movie caps done by DE and Elsa Frohman. The link Dez gave to piccies of Paul from the Who TV movie and in other roles is interesting, and I also like Steve Hillís image gallery (http://www.shillpages.com/dw/mcgannp.shtml). Seeing the Who caps at the latter site back in the day made me want to buy the PAL video of the TV movie and get it converted to NTSC.

I'm glad you like 'em, Catherine. PaulDoc is one of my favorite characters (and always will be, I think).

BTW I think we're about the same age. I was thinking my son Patrick was gettng up in age, since he's 28. Then I realized, what did that make me--ha. much, much older! I decided to abandon that line of thought. Smile

Yes, I love these caps, too. Even with all the plot problems with this film, Paul still looked fab in it, even with the $10,000 wig that had to be glued to his head (and the latter irritated his scalp). I don't think the PMEB would have been born if he played the Doctor with shorn hair. Smile

This was my thought pattern the first time I saw the Dr.Who movie:

What an unusual face. It's so different and...beautiful. I could get to really like that face.

Erm. I may be in serious trouble here.

Oh yeah, I'm gone. Waaaaaaaaayyyyy gone. Ohmigod...

There followed days and days of repeated viewings, and me with no computer to look him up and see if he was real or just a figment of my imagination. I was utterly and completely gobsmacked, and have remained so (with occasional periods of remission) ever since.

*Sigh* Thanks for posting these, Estelle. They remind me of that first, heady time.

drool

I'm still drooling and watching TEN years later. Ten years-I'm planning
a tenth year anniversary! He deserves it! If there was one fictional
character that I wish was real, I'd want it to be my Beloved Eighth
Doctor! If he were real-I'd marry him!

Like the immortal Mr Rod Stewart sings in "Time After Time":

"I only know what I know,
The passing years will show,
You've kept my love so young, so new.

And time after time,
You'll hear me say that I'm
so lucky to be loving you!

Lucky to be loving you!"

In a nutshell! Very Happy

Estelle, you're right about two things:

Shorn hair-no way! Permanent stock of nightmares
there-guaranteed!

And, yes, I think we are about the same age. I was 53 in January, and my son, Simon, will be 26 in August.

I'll be that age in May. Smile

My first introduction to the Eighth Doctor was in the novel The Blue Angel, and I was imagining him looking like Joseph Fiennes (except for the bit about the blue eyes). I was very pleased when I learned Paul had played him, because I'd loved PMl in Withnail & I and remembered his characters from Alien 3 and The Three Musketeers (even though I didn't recognize him per se).

If we're talking songs to fit the character, what about this one? From Dr. Doolittle:

MY FRIEND THE DOCTOR
================

MY FRIEND THE DOCTOR SAYS
THE MOON IS MADE OF APPLE PIE -
AND ONCE A MONTH IT'S EATEN BY THE SUN.
AND THAT IS WHY,
UP IN THE SKY,
YOU'LL FIND AS EVERY MONTH GOES BY
SOMEBODY IN THE SKY'S MAKIN' ANOTHER ONE!

MY FRIEND THE DOCTOR SAYS
THE SUN IS MADE OF CHEDDAR CHEESE -
THE DOCTOR EVEN KNOWS THE REASON WHY
THE FACTS ARE THESE -
TRY IF YOU PLEASE
PRETENDIN' YOU'RE A LONELY CHEESE -
WOULDN'T YOU WANT TO TRY FINDIN' AN APPLE PIE?

Of course you would!

MAYBE WHAT THE DOCTOR TELLS ME
ISN'T ALTOGETHER TRUE -
BUT I LOVE EVERY TALE HE TELLS ME -
I DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER ONES - DO YOU?

MY FRIEND THE DOCTOR SAYS
THE WORLD IS FULL OF FANTASY -
AND WHO ARE YOU AND I TO DISAGREE?
LET'S HOPE AND PRAY
THAT IS THE WAY
THE LIFE WE LOVE WILL ALWAYS STAY
FOR MY FRIEND THE DOCTOR
AND ME!

MY FRIEND THE DOCTOR SAYS
THE STARS ARE MADE OF LEMON DROPS
THE BIGGER ONES ARE LOLLIPOPS AND ICE
THE CLOUDS HAVE SHOPS
UP ON THE TOPS
THAT SELL YOU SWEETS AND SODA - POPS
WHAT DO THEY CALL THE PLACE - ISN'T IT PARADISE?

MY FRIEND THE DOCTOR SAYS
THAT EVERY TIME IT STARTS TO RAIN -
AND PEOPLE RUN INDOORS AGAIN IN SWARMS -
IF YOU REMAIN
OUT IN THE RAIN,
YOU'LL THINK YOU'RE DRINKIN' PINK CHAMPAGNE! -
AND YOU'LL SPEND YOUR LIFE
PRAYIN' FOR THUNDERSTORMS!

MAYBE WHAT THE DOCTOR TELLS ME
ISN'T ALTOGETHER TRUE -
BUT I LOVE EVERY TALE HE TELLS ME -
I DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER ONES - DO YOU?

MY FRIEND THE DOCTOR SAYS
THE WORLD IS FULL OF FANTASY -
AND WHO ARE YOU AND I TO DISAGREE?
LET'S HOPE AND PRAY
THAT IS THE WAY
THE LIFE WE LOVE WILL ALWAYS STAY
FOR MY FRIEND THE DOCTOR -
MY FRIEND THE DOCTOR AND ME!
=========================

I've loved The Doctor since I was twelve, I really have. But it took the 8th to make me *love* The Doctor, you know, that way. Twisted Evil

OMG, OMG, the pretty. Oh, my.

::faints::

(I was on my way back from 6 months in Northern Ireland in May of 1996, and I remember seeing magazine covers before I left, and thinking "Wow, new Who!" followed shortly by "Wow, nice hair! And eyes!" I didn't get to see it for about six months--by the time I got back here, it had already aired--but I was intrigued. Took me until a few months ago to really fall for him, but in the meantime, I often said "Yeah, the movie wasn't that good, but the Doctor was fabulous. Damn shame there wasn't any more." Smile )

Here are some other caps I like from the Doctor Who TV Movie:

These I like because they show Paulís blue eyes very well, even though he looks uncomfortable in that contraption used to keep his eyes wide open.

And the transient transformation scenes:

Fighting the Master:

And these scenes from the end of the film:
